In 1994 I was in grade 4, convenient to remember right? I was still playing my NES but my dad had a subscription to Nintendo Power so I kept seeing the ads and all the games for the Super Nintendo. Luckily by the end of that year I ended up owning a SNES and could check out all of the awesome games, and also lucky for me my dad was a huge Mega Man fan so he bought Mega Man X.
I fell in love with this game! By the end of 94 I was in Grade 5 and pogs where the new “in” thing. I’m sure you remember these cardboard like discs that you would use a heavier piece (called a slammer I think) and try to hit the stack of pogs and flip them over. At the same time these were popular Nintendo Power magazine had some of their own pogs available. I thought you had to order them through their reward catalogue, but it seems like some were included with issues of the magazine. Must have been a period when our subscription ran out cause I don’t have any… Anyways since my parents wouldn’t order me the awesome Mega Man X pogs I decided to make my own. So taking bristol board, markers and packing tape to laminate them, I made a pog of all the bosses and Mega Man. Unfortunately I didn’t keep them but I guarantee you they didn’t look that great lol.
Fast forward 14 years and I’m helping my fiancee pack all his stuff to move into our new house. Guess what I found…

He had the set of those elusive Mega Man X pogs that I had wanted so badly! Lucky for me he gave them to me with a huge set of the collector cards that were in each magazine! I never pulled my cards out of the magazines so it’s kinda cool to look at them all like this. Here’s the 3 Mega Man themed ones he had.
Each card as a description and a set of 3 challenges on the back.
The set of cards I had were the Mega Man X2 cards. Each card features one of the bosses from the game.

Then on the back it tells you about the boss stage, what weapon works best against them and what order you should fight them in.

I’m so glad I’m a pack rat and still have these! And I’m glad my now hubby is too!
*add on* just checked why I didn’t get the pog and our last issue of Nintendo Power was issue 54!!! OMG one more issue and I would have had them! I’m missing 55-68…

I have a whole bag of Nintendo and Genesis pogs if you are interested in a trade…
