Spooky Games for Halloween part 2

Posted by on October 23, 2012

Here’s my next choice for creepy games for Halloween, though it’s not necessarily creepy but it does feature a lot of huge monsters :) I’m talking about Godzilla: Kaijuu Daikessen (Godzilla: Monster War) for the Super Famicom.  According to an article in Nintendo Power (May 95) it was supposed to be released here in April 1995 under the name Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters,  but unfortunately that never ended up happening, which is really too bad because it’s an awesome game!

I love the classic Godzilla music that plays when the title screen loads up!  You may be familiar with the Godzilla King of the Monsters game that came out for the NES, but this one is pretty different.  It’s a Godzilla fighting game, not too terribly different than Street Fighter type game.

In this game you have a choice of 8 classic monsters from the Godzilla movies over the years.  Here is a list of the characters and what movies you may have seen them in.

Has been in over 28 films, the first being Gojira released in Japan, was called Godzilla King of the Monsters! when released here

Godzilla Raids Again

Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster, Invasion of Astro Monster, Destroy All Monsters and Godzilla vs. Gigan

Godzilla vs. Gigan, Godzilla vs. Megalon and Godzilla Final Wars

Godzilla vs. Megalon

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II

Godzilla vs. Biollante

Mothra appears in many films such as Mothra, Godzilla vs. Mothra, Ghidora the Three Headed Monster, Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster, Destroy All Monsters and many more

There is also a 2 player mode that adds Mechagodzilla 2 and Atragon to the roster of available fighters.  Each monster has their own set of abilities and attacks to use.  Every monster has a light and heavy physical attack, which is usually a punch and kick, a way to block, energy based attacks (the kind is unique to the monster) along with a grab and dash attack.  Unfortunately I didn’t look up the controls before I started playing, I just kind of just did trial and error and button mashed, and considering this I did pretty good, though now that I know what the buttons are I’m sure I would do a lot better!

Once you select a character you are taken to a map of Japan where you will battle it out against your foe in a 2D type stage, similar to how you would fight in a game like Street Fighter.

I love this screen announcing that Godzilla is fighting Mothra, totally looks like it’s from the movie!

There are 9 different stages to play in depending on which enemy you decide to face.    When I played I had to take Godzilla since he’s always been my favorite and I faced Mothra, so we were fighting at a carnival/fair ground setting.
Here is one of Mothra’s special attacks she did on me during the fight.

I won’t post pictures of every battle, I’m editing the game play video so you can check that out and see Godzilla in action.

So do yourself a favor and hop onto ebay or wherever you do your online game shopping and pick up Godzilla: Kaijuu Daikessen especially if you are a fan of the movies!  It’s so fun being able to battle your friends as Godzilla or your favorite baddies from the movies!

And since I’m on the topic of Kaiju’s (basically monster movies) you should check out the trailer for this new movie called Monster Roll http://io9.com/5953813/sushi-chefs-vs-kaiju-from-the-sea-++-who-wins  it’s basically sushi chefs vs. kaiju from the sea!
